Manual Lymphatic Drainage

Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) uses a different technique from massage and involves very light touch which only moves the skin and not the muscles beneath. This is a specialised technique and is often used on clients with chronic conditions or before or after operations. Surgeons will often advise patients to have a course of MLD with a trained practitioner.

Lymphatic Drainage uses a different technique from usual massage movements and involves very light touch which only moves the skin and not the muscles beneath.

The lymphatic system is important for the body’s immune response and to encourage healthy body tissue.

Some of the conditions which may benefit from lymphatic drainage:

  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
  • Migraine – helps to relax and generate a feeling of wellbeing
  • Fibromyalgia – MLD is a gentle technique which can help calm nerve pain, stiffness and aid relaxation
  • Congested skin – by the removal of waste products
  • Eczema – inflammation is reduced and the skin healing rate is stimulated
  • Oedema – helps move excess fluid out of the affected area
  • Colds/Flu – can help boost immunity for those who suffer regularly from colds and flu
  • Inflammation – can help reduce inflammation
  • Lymphoedema – can help reduce pooling of fluid around the affected area
  • Sinus problems – can help reduce swelling and discomfort by gently draining away excess mucous
